We were busy living in a house and about to step out. Who could have known that the same kiss we were having had just been with death? I watched while a man was taken away. I held onto the view of the closing door and when I turned back to the room, there was the small map of the tea-set table, quotidian, benign, symbol of time. The numbers on the wall clock morphed into dots. We are this now I said to myself inside the terror. The indifference of nature added its weight. After that, I no longer thought of time as a transcript but as an ongoing address to emptiness.
